Overview
L’Oreal is one of the best-known cosmetic and skincare companies in the world. With an international presence, there are very few companies that have as much brand-name recognition as L’Oreal. Started in 1907 in Paris, L’Oreal continues to set the standard for beauty products in the retail segment everywhere. L’Oreal currently offers several anti-aging products for the eye, including its Age Perfect Eye Cream and Advanced Revitalift.

Featured Ingredients

The L’Oreal Age Perfect Eye Cream is mainly used to counteract eye sagging and moisturize the delicate skin near the eyes. This formula achieves these goals through use of a marine collagen extract along with the company’s unique Derma-Proteins blend of proteins and peptides molecules. The secondary effects of these ingredients apparently leads to a subtle brightening of the skin as well. While it is true that missing collagen is a main reason why the skin near the eyes begins to sag and puffiness appears - in addition to being a main culprit in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles - we have yet to see any conclusive scientific evidence illustrating that marine collagen can actually penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin. However, the inclusion of proteins does convince us that the formula will probably produce a noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. We remain curious how any of these ingredients will lessen dark circles, since L’Oreal does not publish its scientific research.

Advanced Revitalift is formulated to counteract the morning “puffy look” that occurs in the eyes as well as lift the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles in two weeks or less. The formula achieves these results through its inclusion of the company’s unique Pro-Retinol A and Pro-Lastyl ingredients, as well as with its Criste Marine Extract. According to L’Oreal, these ingredients help to protect the skin against the free radical damage that can often cause skin to sag and reveal wrinkles. Pro-Lastyl is supposed to encourage the production of elastin, which is a vital component of young and healthy skin. Criste Marine Extract is a specific blend of sea-derived compounds that are supposed to soothe swelling and irritation in the skin.

Web Site Description
The L’Oreal web sites are vast and extensive. One could easily spend hours looking through the many pages that it offers and reading the many testimonials from pleased customers and happy celebrity endorsements, who include Penelope Cruz and other famous people. The descriptions of its products are fairly straight-forward, and the average visitor will probably be impressed by the number of articles available on each formula. What we found a bit disappointing, however, was a general lack of scientific support for some of the ingredients in the L’Oreal formulas, such as Pro-Lastyl and marine collagen. We would like to have seen the actual research showing how these compounds work.

Positives
- L’Oreal is an establish company with years of success in the cosmeceutical industry
- Most of the products seem to be formulated with the best intentions and ingredients

Negatives
- Some consumers may want more specifics about actual ingredients and research behind them
- L’Oreal does not offer a free trial of its products

Conclusion
There is no doubt that L’Oreal continues to be a top name in cosmetics and beauty products around the world. And for good reason. Its products tend to be solid and perform as expected. However, we wish we could give the L’Oreal eye treatments a bit more of an enthusiastic recommendation, but hopefully that will happen once the company discloses some research to back up the claims that its unique ingredients will indeed be beneficial for puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.
