Overview
Kinerase continues to exist as one of the leading cosmetic companies in the country, thanks to the fact that it successfully promotes and distributes its products through dermatologists, aestheticians and other skincare professionals. It offers a wide array of cosmeceutical formulas, most of which are based on the proprietary ingredient developed by Kinerase, which is called Kinetin. According to research conducted by the company, Kinetin offers many anti-aging effects. The company does offer a formula specifically for the eye area, which is called Under Eye Rescue. Based on the successful effects of the other formulas in the Kinerase line, we decided to review this formula as well.

Featured Ingredients
As opposed to other formulas in the eye care field, Kinerase does not claim that its Under Eye Rescue formula will address all types of problems near the eye. Instead, this formula seems to be specifically designed to reduce the appearance of undereye circles (puffiness), which is a common problem for both men and women. We appreciate the company’s honesty, since too many manufacturers make outlandish claims that their products will “do it all.”

Kinerase Under Eye Rescue contains the company’s unique ingredient, called Kinetin. Kinetin is a specific combination of nutrients derived from many botanical sources. When applied to the skin, Kinetin does seem to have a positive effect in reducing wrinkles and encouraging the retention of moisture, which results is soft, younger looking skin. The Under Eye Rescue also contains Eyeseryl Tetrapeptide, a compound that helps soothe under eye puffiness.

Web Site Description
The Kinerase web site is clear and comprehensive. It provides plenty of information about its products, and gives a full description of its unique Kinetin ingredient complex. Unfortunately, the site could use similar statistics and information on its other ingredients, especially any clinical studies on the ingredients in Under Eye Rescue that verify its anti-aging effects. In addition, we would feel better if consumers had the chance to try this formula for free.

Positives
- Company has a good reputation among dermatologists and other skincare professionals- Scientific research behind its unique Kinetin ingredient is solid

 Negatives
- No research on under eye puffiness ingredients

- No free trial offered

- Product does not address dark circles

Conclusion
Even though we have every reason to believe that Kinerase Under Eye Rescue will in fact reduce the appearance of puffiness under the eye, we would feel better about recommending this product if the web site contained more scientific information about the ingredients in this specific formula. In addition, since this product does not address dark circles or other eye-area problems, it is probably best used as part of a system.

Overview
Hylexin gained a lot of attention for its aggressive marketing campaigns online and in various tabloid magazines. One of the most recognizable aspects of the Hylexin advertisements includes the image of a women with two very large, dark streaks under her eyes. This exaggerated image may catch a lot of attention and make people want to read the advertisement, but the researchers at EyeWrinkleReviews.com tend to be quite skeptical about such techniques. However, even considering these ads, we wanted to reserve judgment on Hylexin until we reviewed the actual product and had the opportunity to investigate the research behind its ingredients.

Featured Ingredients
Hylexin’s sole purpose is to reduce the appearance of dark circles under the eye. Therefore, this product will not affect crow’s feet, under eye puffiness or other signs of aging around the eye. While this already puts Hylexin far below other products in its field, perhaps more discouraging is the fact that Hylexin does not disclose what active ingredients are responsible for its ability to reduce dark circles. Even though the company claims that 72% of those using Hylexin noticed their dark circles fade, we could not substantiate this claim, since the actual study is not available for review. If we were aware of the active ingredients, we could perhaps conduct our own independent research, but since this is not the case, most consumers are expected to take Bremmen Labs (the manufacturers or Hylexin) at their word.

Even if one believes the claim that Hylexin worked in 72% of people trying the formula in their clinical study, this percentage itself is far from convincing. Other eye care formulas, including Dermitage, Dermalogica and other high-end formulas, have conducted similar studies and found the average effect to be in the 85% to 95% range, within only a few weeks. Therefore, Hylexin seems like an inferior product to us.

Web Site Description
Hylexin’s web site contains a minimal amount of information about the product. No customer testimonials are present on the web site, and the FAQ section seems to merely be a reformatted delivery of the exact same content as is present on the home page. In addition, the so-called “Media” and “In the News” sections are nothing more than areas where consumers see Hylexin’s commercial or read their in-print advertisements. This web site seems to seriously lack any objectivity, as well as lacking the essential information previously noted.

Positives
- None

 Negatives
- Ingredients are not revealed

- Formula may only work on dark circles - will not affect puffiness or crow’s feet

- Web site lacks convincing research or customer testimonials

Conclusion
Considering the high price ($95) for Hylexin, and coupled with the serious lack of information about the product, we cannot recommend it at this time. We worry that many consumers may be drawn in by the product’s clever advertising, without knowing how or why the product works for dark circles. We recommend avoiding Hylexin.

Overview
Cellex-C was started quite by accident by a cell biologist at the University of Wisconsin named Lorraine Meisner. She literally started creating her first facial cream formulas in her kitchen in 1986. At the time, she had become aware that most women over the age of 30 were failing to get the right kind of therapy for their wrinkles or fine lines because the most popular products at the time all contained Retin-A. While Retin-A does have a beneficial effect on the skin, it is truly meant to be used by women much younger, since it causes sensitivity to the sun and does not have any effect on wrinkles that already exist. Ms. Meisner therefore created Cellex-C, which is based on the scientific discovery that vitamin C is connected to production of collagen in the skin. Based on her success with the original Cellex-C formula for wrinkles, Meisner’s company now offers several treatments, including a specific product for the eye called Eye Contouring Gel.

Featured Ingredients
Like most of the other products in the Cellex-C line, Eye Contour Gel contains the company’s patented blend of Ascorbic Acid (the natural form of vitamin C) along with the amino acid tyrosine and the mineral zinc. Most of the research on this combination of ingredients was conducted by the company’s lead scientist, Dr. Steven Traikovich. Dr. Traikovich found that 84.2% of those who used the Patented Vitamin C combination (known as Cellex-C Serum) noticed diminished wrinkles after one month of use. This is impressive indeed.

The Eye Contour Gel combines the Cellex-C Serum along with other compounds known for their positive effect on the eye area, including Chamomile Extract (which helps soothe puffiness), Hyaluronic Acid (for moisture retention) and Aloe (for accelerated healing). Thus, it is conceivable that those using the formula on the skin near their eyes will likely see less wrinkles and crow’s feet, as well as a reduction in puffiness.

Web Site Description
The Web site for Cellex-C is rather simple and straight forward. It contains some useful information about the beginning of the company, as well as some compelling before/after photos gathered from Dr. Traikovich’s famous “half-face” studies. But most of the content seems to focus on Cellex-C and its anti-wrinkle effects. While the 84.2% statistic is impressive, other measures such as discoloration (31.6%) and skin tone (26.3%) were less impressive. Unfortunately, no statistics are available on Eye Counter Gel’s specific effects on the eye area skin. It is also important to note that this formula was not developed to brighten dark circles, so those looking for this benefit would probably have to choose another product.

Positives
- Impressive main ingredient and compelling research- Before and after photos are dramatic and convincing

 Negatives
- No statistics on actual effects on eye area problems (puffiness, crow’s feet, dark circles)

- Does not contain any ingredients for dark circles

- No free trial offered; Product costs $70 a bottle

Conclusion
We are fairly convinced that most of the products in the Cellex-C line will produce several positive effects for the skin, especially those meant to address wrinkles on the overall face area. However, since the company does not list any specific data for its Eye Counter Gel - coupled with the fact that the formula does not address dark circles - we think Cellex-C’s attempt at an eye formula falls a bit short.

Overview
Skinceuticals is a company with an established reputation in the cosmetic field. Founded in 1997, Skinceuticals has built a visible presence in the last 10 years because of its impressive collection of skincare formulas, many of which are created following a thorough process that includes plenty of scientific research. Like many such companies, Skinceuticals offers several products to combat aging near the eye, the most important of which is its unique Eye Cream formula. Because of this company’s solid track record, we decided to review this Eye Cream and see if it lived up to the company’s reputation.

Featured Ingredients
Skinceuticals Eye Cream was designed to reduce puffiness and combat dark circles under the eye. To accomplish this, the formulators included two ingredients that are not usually seen in product of this type. Centella Asiatica (also known as Gotu Kola) is an herb that is found in India and nearby Asian countries. As an oral supplement, taking this herb is believed to promote several areas of health. The Skinceuticals research team decided to include Centella Asiatica in the Eye Cream formula because the extract of this herb shows an affinity for the skin. Namely, it helps to improve blood flow to the eye area by strengthening the capillaries (miniature blood vessels) that feed the eye area, thus making pooling and clogging less likely.

Skinceuticals Eye Cream also contains Ections, which are tiny molecules produced by bacteria to protect themselves from the defense’s conjured by the body’s immune system. While the though of using an ingredient derived from bacteria may not seem appealing to many, the research on Ections - and their ability to promote wound healing - is impressive. Since puffiness and crow’s feet could be considered wounds of a specific type, it is conceivable that Ections could thus have a positive effect on the eye area.

Web Site Description
The Skinceuticals web site is very attractive and assembled in a clean, straightforward style that suggests scientific emphasis. The descriptions of the products, including Eye Cream, are clear and easy to understand. The web site also contains full links to scientific abstracts on its ingredients, including Centella Asiatica and Ections. There are a few things missing, however. We did not find any customer testimonials, which are usually an indicator of how a company’s formulas work for real people (as opposed to a controlled laboratory environment). In addition, while the potential effects of Eye Cream are listed, we did not see any specific studies on the actual effects of the Eye Cream. Thus, a potential customer is expected to read the technical abstracts on the individual ingredients and make the assumption that they will notice an effect on dark circles, puffiness and crow’s feet. In addition, the company admits that the only way to obtain Skinceuticals products is through a physician or licensed skincare professional. Online ordering - or a free trial - is not available.

Positives
- Company has a solid reputation based on thorough scientific research- Initial studies on key ingredients are encouraging

 Negatives
- Products cannot be purchased online - available only through a doctor

- No free trial is available - No testimonials are posted on the web site

- It is unclear whether a study on the entire Eye Cream formula (in contrast to its individual ingredients) has ever been conducted

Conclusion
If you are looking for a single formula to combat dark circles, under eye puffiness and crow’s feet, we think that Skinceuticals Eye Cream may deliver as promised. While we would like to believe that the company’s claims are true, we cannot be 100% sure. Perhaps it is best for you to speak to a physician or skincare professional and ask their opinion about Skinceuticals Eye Cream first.
