Overview
Ahava is an international company that is dedicated to harvesting the natural wonder and mystery of the Dead Sea and its abundant natural resources. The waters of the Dead Sea, for example, are rich in many kinds of minerals and other nutrients that can produce healthful results in the human body, especially the skin. Ahava as a company is also extremely dedicated to environmental protection and replenishing the areas surrounding the Dead Sea, so that all have the opportunity to make use of its gifts for centuries to come. Ahava offers a full line of skincare formulas, including a formula for the eye area called Continual Eye Treat.
Featured Ingredients
Continual Eye Treat is intended as a general aging product. Therefore, it was a little unclear which specific effects the formula may produce for the eye area. While other products specifically state that they are mean to reduce wrinkles, diminish eye puffiness or decrease dark circles - or a combination of all three - Ahava merely states that Continual Eye Treat will help to make the entire eye area look younger, due to the infusion of moisture and lift that its ingredients provide. Perhaps the company is taking great effort to make sure that it does not make claims it cannot back up - which is laudable - but many consumers want to know if a formula will be able to address the three common problems that can affect the eye area.
Regardless of the general nature of the product’s claims, the Ahava Continual Eye Treat does contain a sensible and intriguing blend of ingredients. Of course, like all Ahava products, it contains a high concentration of water derived from the Dead Sea, along with a rich amount of minerals that come from those waters. In addition, it contains unique botanical ingredients, such as Centella Asiatica, Butcherbroom extract, Calendula Extract, Aloe Vera, Fenugreek and Algae Extract. These ingredients have been used for centuries to promote healthy circulation and wound healing, which suggests that the Ahava Continual Eye Treat will likely produce a positive effect on reducing dark circles and puffiness, even if the company does not state that fact.
Web Site Description
The Ahava web site is extremely well constructed and informative. Plenty of details about the company’s origin and dedication to the environment are given, and we found the overall approach of the web site to be quite refreshing. In contrast to other web sites in this industry, Ahava tones down its marketing messaging and instead creates a tone that is intended to soothe and put any potential customer at ease. Customer testimonials for the eye formula are provided, but are done so in a tasteful manner. While the web site does lack some information, such as clinical research about the ingredients in its products - or survey data on how the formulas have actually performed among its customers - we’re prepared to give Ahava the benefit of the doubt because the company does seem to have good intentions.
Positives
- A unique and fresh approach to skincare products
- Company is committed to protecting and preserving the environment
- Continual Eye Treat does seem to have a fairly comprehensive blend of useful ingredients
Negatives
- Web site does lack some clinical evidence for its ingredients and finished formulas
- It could be useful to have a free trial for the products offered
Conclusion
Overall, we feel fairly confident recommending products from a company like Ahava. Their approach is refreshing and we get the idea that the company is in the skincare business for more than just money. That being said, we will have to hesitate on giving it our full recommendation until the company posts for clinical research on its ingredients and results.

| Oriki |
|
Overview
Oriki Cosmeceuticals is based in Westminster, California, and was started by biochemist Dr. Tuan Nguyen. Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified member of the American Dermatological Association and has been in charge of the formulation of all Oriki products since the company’s inception. The company apparently prides itself on attention to detail and currently offers several products for various skin types. Oriki offers an eye treatment formula called Firming Eye Serum, which the company claims is like an “Eye Lift in a Bottle.” While this does seem to be quite a goal to achieve, we reserved our final judgment of the formula until we completed our independent review.
Featured Ingredients
Oriki Firming Eye Serum is formulated to help lift and firm the skin, soothing out wrinkles and fine lines in the process, while also helping to reduce puffiness and the appearance of dark circles. According to the company, the formula attains this effect by its inclusion of a specific Vitamin C concentrate, in addition to various botanical extracts. Unfortunately, all of our efforts to find out what these botanicals were - and how they could reduce the appearance of puffiness or dark circles - proved pointless. While there is some research that suggests how Vitamin C can protect the skin against free radicals and other damaging factors that cause crow’s feet and other wrinkles to appear, we are not sure if Oriki’s Firming Eye Serum contains the right kind of Vitamin C at the correct concentrated amount. In addition, the company does not disclose the exact name of the botanical extracts in the formula, so we cannot evaluate how well this formula will actually address puffiness or dark circles.
Web Site Description
The Oriki web site contains a fair amount of information on the company and its products. It does have a fairly accurate depiction of the human skin and how it ages, and there are a few customer testimonials posted on the web site as well. Products can be ordered directly from the site, and the Firming Eye Serum is currently priced at $95 a bottle. There is no free trial offered, but the customer service department is available to handle any questions and facilitate refunds if the customer is not satisfied with the product. While this is reassuring, we were quick to note the overall lack of specific information about the Oriki products, especially the Firming Eye Serum. By not disclosing the specific ingredients in the formula or how it has worked in customers, Oriki has prevented us from completed our full review of this product.
Positives
- Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified dermatologist
- There are a few customer testimonials posted on the web site
Negatives
- The company does not fully reveal the ingredients in the product
- The web site does not include any clinical research or customer survey data on the effectiveness of the formula
- No free trial is offered for Firming Eye Serum
Conclusion
Even though we do not doubt Dr. Nguyen’s expertise or his credentials, the team at EyeWrinkleReviews.com has to admit being disappointed that the company does not fully reveal the ingredients in its Firming Eye Serum. Without this important information, we cannot recommend this product at this time. Hopefully, the company responds to our inquiries soon and reports on the specific ingredients so that we can one day complete our analysis.

| Hydrolyze |
|
Overview
Hydrolyze is a product formulated and distributed by Bellezza Products of New York, a subdivision of Longevity, LLC. This parent company also produces and distributes the Miracle Burn diet formula - which has come under scrutiny from the Federal Trade Commission for unsubstantiated claims about its weight-loss effects - as well as other sexual enhancement and cosmetic formulas. Hydrolyze is Bellezza’s attempt to attract customers looking for a way to reduce dark circles and crow’s feet at the same time. Apparently, the product does not attempt to address eye puffiness or bags under the eye, so it is important to note that this product initially has some limitations when compared to other eye treatments or eye treatment systems.
Featured Ingredients
Hydrolyze is a direct competitor of Strivectin-SD and similarly marketed formulas, so it is no surprise that it contains two of the most common ingredients for fighting dark circles and wrinkles. Haloxyl is a patented combination of specific enzymes and nutrients that are supposed to strengthen the blood vessels that nourish the eye and thus improve the poor circulation that can sometimes lead to the formation of dark circles. While we are aware that Haloxyl does product some moderate effects on dark circles, we feel that this ingredient works best when combined with other circulation-enhancing ingredients - such as Actiflow - or when it is used alongside Lipolight, a light diffusing ingredient that brightens the eye area. Unfortunately, Hydrolyze contains neither of these ingredients to support Haloxyl.
Hydrolyze also contains Matrixyl 3000, which does appear in many general facial aging creams. There is some evidence that suggests how Matrixyl 3000 can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially since this compound does seem to mildly stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. However, Matrixyl 3000 does seem to be rather weak in comparison to other nutrients that produce this same effect, like Glucosamine Complex for example.
Web Site Description
The web site for Hydrolyze is fairly stripped down and basic in appearance and presentation. The site itself only contains a few pages of information, and most of the time is spent comparing the formula to Strivectin and other competitors. Although a nice brief illustration of the formation of dark circles is provided, the web site only contains brief mentions of the ingredients in the formula, and does not include any clinical data on the effects. It would have been nice to at least have some results from a customer survey reported. If a customer is interested in purchasing the formula, the web site seems to push hard for the visitor to purchase three or more bottles at once, which is at least $144. There are a few customer testimonials posted, but based on the company’s shaky history with its diet products, we have to wonder whether these are authentic or not.
Positives
- Haloxyl and Matrixyl 3000 may moderately improve dark circles and wrinkles
- Web site does contain some customer testimonials
Negatives
- Company’s other products may be less than optimum
- Hydrolyze does not address eye puffiness or bags
- No scientific data for the ingredients is posted
- No free trial for Hydrolyze is offered - the product is priced quite high
Conclusion
Based on the reputation of the company that produces Hydrolyze alone, we are hesitant to recommend the formula. Even though we have to admit that Haloxyl and Matrixyl 3000 can produce some benefits, this formula seems to be only a modest attempt at a good eye treatment. Even if these two ingredients produce some improvement in dark circles or wrinkles, customers should be aware that this formula will probably do nothing for eye puffiness or under-eye bags.

| L’Oreal |
|
Overview
L’Oreal is one of the best-known cosmetic and skincare companies in the world. With an international presence, there are very few companies that have as much brand-name recognition as L’Oreal. Started in 1907 in Paris, L’Oreal continues to set the standard for beauty products in the retail segment everywhere. L’Oreal currently offers several anti-aging products for the eye, including its Age Perfect Eye Cream and Advanced Revitalift.
Featured Ingredients
The L’Oreal Age Perfect Eye Cream is mainly used to counteract eye sagging and moisturize the delicate skin near the eyes. This formula achieves these goals through use of a marine collagen extract along with the company’s unique Derma-Proteins blend of proteins and peptides molecules. The secondary effects of these ingredients apparently leads to a subtle brightening of the skin as well. While it is true that missing collagen is a main reason why the skin near the eyes begins to sag and puffiness appears - in addition to being a main culprit in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles - we have yet to see any conclusive scientific evidence illustrating that marine collagen can actually penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin. However, the inclusion of proteins does convince us that the formula will probably produce a noticeable reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. We remain curious how any of these ingredients will lessen dark circles, since L’Oreal does not publish its scientific research.
Advanced Revitalift is formulated to counteract the morning “puffy look” that occurs in the eyes as well as lift the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles in two weeks or less. The formula achieves these results through its inclusion of the company’s unique Pro-Retinol A and Pro-Lastyl ingredients, as well as with its Criste Marine Extract. According to L’Oreal, these ingredients help to protect the skin against the free radical damage that can often cause skin to sag and reveal wrinkles. Pro-Lastyl is supposed to encourage the production of elastin, which is a vital component of young and healthy skin. Criste Marine Extract is a specific blend of sea-derived compounds that are supposed to soothe swelling and irritation in the skin.
Web Site Description
The L’Oreal web sites are vast and extensive. One could easily spend hours looking through the many pages that it offers and reading the many testimonials from pleased customers and happy celebrity endorsements, who include Penelope Cruz and other famous people. The descriptions of its products are fairly straight-forward, and the average visitor will probably be impressed by the number of articles available on each formula. What we found a bit disappointing, however, was a general lack of scientific support for some of the ingredients in the L’Oreal formulas, such as Pro-Lastyl and marine collagen. We would like to have seen the actual research showing how these compounds work.
Positives
- L’Oreal is an establish company with years of success in the cosmeceutical industry
- Most of the products seem to be formulated with the best intentions and ingredients
Negatives
- Some consumers may want more specifics about actual ingredients and research behind them
- L’Oreal does not offer a free trial of its products
Conclusion
There is no doubt that L’Oreal continues to be a top name in cosmetics and beauty products around the world. And for good reason. Its products tend to be solid and perform as expected. However, we wish we could give the L’Oreal eye treatments a bit more of an enthusiastic recommendation, but hopefully that will happen once the company discloses some research to back up the claims that its unique ingredients will indeed be beneficial for puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.
